A lockdown-inspired relocation encouraged Sarah Evans to move from her flat in Kent and start a new-life in St. Modwen Homes’ three-bedroom Houghton home, located at the Glan Llyn development. Lockdown gave me a new perspective
“As for many people, lockdown gave me a chance to reflect and reevaluate – especially where I was currently living and whether I wanted to relocate. A lot of my family are based in South Wales, and I decided I wanted to be closer to them. Once I made up my mind, the first step was finding a new job. I fortunately landed a teacher training job in Bristol – so I knew now I just needed to find the perfect place to live. At first, I found a temporary place to rent in Newport city centre whilst I completed the search for my dream home – and in not too much time at all, I came across Glan Llyn.”
Location is everything
“I knew Glan Llyn was ‘the one’ instantly. The location was exactly what I was looking for and ticked all my boxes. Having found a job in Bristol city centre, it now takes me just 25-minutes to drive to work each day from the development – cutting my commute almost in half compared to my rented property. It really is the perfect spot for people like me who are working in Bristol or need easy access to the M4.
“One of the main reasons I visited the showhome at Glan Llyn is because I’m an outdoorsy person – I love being active and going for long walks. With this development, you’re still close to the city centre but if you walk 15 minutes in the other direction, you’re in the picturesque countryside. There are lots of cycle routes, a gym just around the corner and a cinema in walking distance.
What I find particularly pleasant is that I can walk around the park and see dogs and families – it really feels like a caring community. When I first visited the development, I felt the layout was really sympathetic to the landscape – it just feels really spacious. Plus, I’ve got a decent sized garden, and there’s lots of wildlife around the lake.”
One big community
“The community feel is very strong here at Glan Llyn. There’s a dedicated Facebook page that residents can join to ask questions or find out information. This was so helpful for me when I first moved to the area as I live alone and wasn’t familiar with Newport or the surroundings. My neighbours were so friendly too, everyone is just super keen to get involved, help each other out and speak to one another.”
The right choice
“During my search, I looked at a number of developments available in the area, but when Glan Llyn became available, the style of homes stood out to me and my needs instantly. I loved the open plan layout of my house and was so happy with the floor-to-ceiling windows as they let in so much natural light. I was immediately drawn to the overall design thanks to its uniqueness and modern structure – the two most appealing factors that I noticed as soon as I walked through the door.
