One of the first people to buy a new home in the latest phase of Locking Parklands, just outside Weston-super-Mare, Katy Barker and her husband Matthew are now counting down the months until they move into their new home.
“We first looked at Locking Parklands nearly two years ago but, at the time, St. Modwen Homes had just sold out of its three-bedroom houses. We knew it was the prettiest development in the Weston-super-Mare area so we held out until this latest phase was launched.
“Having seen the build quality of the previous phases at Locking Parklands and the stand-out designs of the properties that St. Modwen Homes has delivered, we weren’t nervous about buying from the plan. After all, it meant that we got to choose our favorite plot (a lovely three bedroom ‘Mulberry’ house), as well as pick our favorite kitchen and bathroom tiles. We also knew that we wanted a modern home that would require little DIY when we moved in, so a second-hand property was out of the question.
“Additionally, we were really impressed that the properties are being built with solar panels as this was something that we were looking to include on any house we bought, so it’s saved us thousands of pounds – and will continue to save us money in reduced energy bills.
“Being first-time buyers, saving for a deposit was always going to be our biggest hurdle when buying a house. To help with this, we used the government’s Help to Buy scheme whereby we only needed a 5% deposit. For us, this was roughly £13,000 which, had we not used Help to Buy, we would have had to save more than double this amount. In fact, without Help to Buy, we simply wouldn’t have been able to afford to buy a house so we were delighted to find out it was available at Locking Parklands.
“We’re so excited to be moving into a new home at Locking Parklands – October can’t come around soon enough!”
