Local children win shopping vouchers, just in time for Christmas!

Our Locking Parklands and Handley Place developments have joined forces with a local primary school to run an exciting colouring competition for its pupils.

Children in Year 1, aged between 5 and 6, at Parklands Educate Together Primary School were invited to enter the competition whose theme, with a nod to the ongoing development of this popular site, was health and safety.

Provided with a line drawing of two site workers, the children unleashed their creative flair and took on the task of colouring in. And whilst many stayed with the traditional fluorescent shades of work wear that we associate with building sites, many let their imaginations run wild and opted for alternative colours – clearly channelling their artistic skills!

Three winners were chosen – Edward, Erin and George, and we rewarded each child with a £30 shopping voucher. What’s more, the winner’s drawings will be displayed around the nearby developments to reinforce the message that all people on site must be dressed correctly, wearing all the necessary safety equipment.

Karon O’Callaghan, our Head of Sales South West and Wales, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the pupils at Parklands Educate Together Primary School who took part in the competition. It has been a lovely project to watch unfold – all entries were fantastic.

“The children have clearly understood the importance of hardhats and work boots on building sites and have learned about health and safety, alongside having fun colouring in. We are sure that our workers and the residents of Locking Parklands and Handley Place alike will enjoy admiring the colourful creations displayed around the development.”

Jeremy Hughes, Headteacher at Parklands Educate Together Primary School, said “Our Year 1 class were delighted to be able to participate in this competition. Understanding the safety of a building site is important, and what better way to engage the pupils than making it fun!

“We’d like to thank St. Modwen Homes for asking us to take part – everyone thoroughly enjoyed the competition, and we’re excited to see the winning entries on display at both Locking Parklands and Handley Place.”
