We’re building fully accessible homes at our Handley Place development

We have collaborated with affordable house provider, Alliance Homes, to build accessible quality homes for those in need in Locking.

Located at our Handley Place development, we are constructing three fully accessible and wheelchair friendly homes, designed for comfort and practicality and adhering to local requirements within Weston Super Mare.

The three brand-new additions will consist of two semi-detached homes and one detached home, all built with features that make movement around the home and independent living much easier than in a standard home.

These homes will feature floor lifts and adjustable worktops in the kitchen, plus, wet rooms and bedrooms that all function so they can be used without difficulty. Every aspect has been considered to ensure these accessible features are carefully integrated, and the entire property can be utilised with ease and comfort.

What’s more, the same approach extends to furnishings and fittings, with additional provisions such as extra loading to the roofs, should a hoist be required in the future. And finally, extra consideration to switch and socket positions have been accounted for to enable residents to access them and position their appliances with ease.

At St. Modwen Homes we are keen to provide a community with quality houses of a unique and high standard. As a national and award-winning housebuilder, we pride ourselves on going above and beyond to assist this local authority and nominated affordable housing provider, Alliance Homes, with their requirements.

Stewart Court, Technical Manager, at St. Modwen Homes, said: “We are so happy to have collaborated with Alliance Homes to bring these accessible homes to life. At St. Modwen Homes, we want everyone to be able to have a home that meets their needs. When building these fully accessible homes, we have taken extra care to include the practical features and amenities that will be most useful to the individuals living there.

Whilst the homes incorporate a lot of specialist items and automation, much of the design was about ensuring things are in the right places and set at appropriate heights, allowing them to adapt to individual needs.”

Sarah McQuatt, Head of Land and New Business at Alliance Homes added: “At Alliance we are not only striving to deliver more affordable homes across North Somerset, but we also want to ensure that we are able to meet some of the more specific housing needs identified within our communities. Providing good quality accessible homes is a priority as we understand the importance of being able to live more independently whilst maintaining community links and networks.”
