Midlands teenagers showcase rugby skills at RugbyWorks tournament

Students from across the Midlands have showcased their rugby skills and abilities during Dallaglio RugbyWorks’ Midlands Summer Rugby Tournament. The event, which was sponsored by St. Modwen Homes, was held in the grounds of co-sponsor Caterpillar’s Desford manufacturing facility, and welcomed 90 pupils from 10 Midlands schools.

The fun-filled day, which took place on Tuesday 2nd July, saw South Wigston High School crowned winners and they took home the coveted first place trophy. The tournament also welcomed ex-international players and coaches at  Dallaglio RugbyWorks’, Aleki Lutui and Salesi Ma’afu, who offered support and guidance to the players as well as presenting awards on the day.

Dave Smith, Managing Director at St. Modwen Homes said:

“The work that Dallaglio RugbyWorks does in helping teenagers develop key skills is something we are proud to support, both through the funding of tournaments like these and by helping young people to learn more about careers in construction.

“We’re thrilled to be championing the hardworking students taking part in this year’s Midlands Summer Tournament. We’d like to say a huge congratulations to the winners and all who took part.”

St. Modwen Homes launched a year-long partnership with Dallaglio RugbyWorks in November 2018. So far the partnership has seen the company host employability days, to give young people an insight into working in construction, as well as provided funding and match day t-shirts for three rugby tournaments for teenagers in the Midlands.

Dallaglio RugbyWorks is an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on the values of rugby, with the aim of steering teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training.
