Kent-based charity goes ahead with expansion plans

Kent-based food education charity, Communigrow, has received a generous £10,600 donation from St. Modwen Homes.

Located at Park Farm in East Malling, Communigrow is a horticultural and food education charity. Providing learning opportunities, work experience and outdoor activities for the local community, the charity supports those with special needs, as well as vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and adults.

Through regular workshops, the organisation helps schools, groups, and volunteers gain practical experience producing and harvesting vegetables and herbs. The charity’s aim is to educate everyone, regardless of background, about the benefits of growing local, fresh, and affordable produce in an organic and sustainable way.

Our donation has been used to fund initiatives to help the charity build on future plans and expand its education and training offering. A large proportion of the contribution is going towards the development of a new yurt, which will provide a warm and dry teaching environment for schools all year round.

The remaining money will go towards helping the charity build a ‘communi-shed’, where locals can take part in woodcraft skills and field-to-fork cooking workshops.

Commenting on the donation, Jeremy Attwater, Regional Managing Director – South, at St. Modwen Homes, said: “It’s hugely important for us to support our local communities and we’re always looking for ways we can make a positive difference. The work Communigrow is doing caught our attention instantly, and we hope our donation goes a long way in helping the charity achieve its future plans.”

Caroline Pearce, Chair of Trustees at Communigrow, says: “We’re extremely grateful for St. Modwen Homes’ support. Donations like these are greatly appreciated as they allow us to continue supporting the local community. The educational yurt and ‘communi-shed’ will play a key role in helping us expand our services, and we’re really excited to see what we’re able to achieve as a result.”
