Helping pupils from The Mease Spencer Academy walk to school safely

In support of International Walk to School month, St. Modwen Homes has donated high visibility vests to all pupils at The Mease Spencer Academy in Hilton, Derbyshire

The annual initiative, which is spearheaded by UK charity Living Streets, aims to encourage families to leave the car at home and get active and energised at the start of the day by walking to school safely.

According to research by Living Streets, children who exercise before school arrive refreshed and ready to learn*. That is certainly no exception for children who attend The Mease Spencer Academy as Julia Hart, Principal of the Hilton school, says: “We actively encourage children and their parents to walk to school as it’s really important to us that our pupils are happy, engaged and ready to start learning when they arrive at school. As the darker evenings draw closer, the high visibility vests, generously donated by St. Modwen Homes, will enable children to get to and from school more safely.”

Jo Winston, Sales and Marketing Director at St. Modwen Homes, said:

“We know how important it is for children to get active whilst also being safe on their walk to and from school, which is why we are delighted to have donated 27 high visibility vests to pupils at The Mease Spencer Academy. We hope that the high visibility vests will help encourage more children and their parents to walk to school and that pupils will also benefit from being able to use the vests during school trips.”
