Did you know that, according to a 2023 study by the Office of National Statistics women only represented 15.8% of the total construction industry workforce? Whilst this was an improvement on the previous year, it’s clear that a lot more needs to be done moving forwards to tackle this.

At St. Modwen Homes, we’re passionate about improving inclusivity within housebuilding and championing the role that women play across our entire business. Recently, we were delighted to welcome Women in Property, an industry group who create opportunities, inspirational events and networking specifically for women, to our Longbridge site for a special VIP tour.

Over 30 property professionals were given a guided tour of the historic £1 billion regeneration project by Beth Miller, Project Manager at St. Modwen Developments. This step-by-step tour allowed them to see how Longbridge has been transformed since the closure of the MG Rover site 19 years ago.

Starting at popular local street food venue, Herbert’s Yard, the group followed the West Works trail path which recently opened to the public and now provides a safe travel route to connect residents with the amenities of the town centre.

We were proud to show the group the initial transformative work across the West Works and give them an overview of how the residential section of the development will come together. Across the coming years, we will create 350 new energy-efficient homes at West Works, with construction well underway and many happy homeowners already having moved into their new properties.

Bethany Miller, Project Manager at St. Modwen, said: “We are incredibly proud of the work that has gone into transforming Longbridge into a thriving town and believe it acts as a wonderful example of how brownfield sites can be regenerated across the country. St. Modwen continues to be a big supporter of Women In Property and it was our pleasure to invite so many brilliant industry professionals across to West Works and showcase our work.”

Women in Property Midlands group said: “The Midlands branch had a fantastic time on the Longbridge Regeneration Site Tour last Thursday, kindly hosted by St Modwen. We were pleased to be joined by our members and non-members on a sunny afternoon as we explored the extensive redevelopment that has taken place, thanks to the holistic master planning which has put sustainability at the forefront as well as recognising the history and importance of the iconic West Works. Thank you to St. Modwen for your kind hospitality!”
