Homeowners reveal how their property makes them happier and healthier

We know that the right home is more than just a house, it’s a reflection of you. It’s your personal sanctuary from the outside world and the place where we all spend a huge amount of time. Many of us make changes to the ways we live to keep ourselves happy, healthy and safe – but can the environment in our home also have an impact on our overall health and wellbeing?

The answer is yes! There’s a variety of studies which prove that an increase in natural light, improvement of air quality and reduction of noise pollution all greatly impact how we feel – and when we feel happier, there are numerous benefits to our mental and physical health.

All of our properties are designed to maximise height and light. With higher ceilings and larger windows, you’ll notice the moments when sunlight passes through your home throughout the day. Our use of contemporary open plan layouts creates an environment that feels spacious and airy, brimming with natural light. When you step inside our homes, you can instantly feel the effects of these mood-boosting elements – making you happier, healthier, calmer, and more productive.

To get a first-hand account, we spoke to two St. Modwen Homes homeowners and asked them to tell us their thoughts on the benefits of a healthier home.

Kelly Cope – @midlandshousetohome

Kelly Cope is a resident at St. Modwen Homes’ Bramshall Meadows development in Uttoxeter. Since moving in, she has set up her own Instagram page – @midlandshousetohome – dedicated to all things home, lifestyle and family!

Kelly explained: “For me, maintaining optimum health and wellbeing is my main priority and I truly believe that personal space plays a big part in this. There’s no doubt that the extra height and light in my home makes me feel happier, even when it’s a totally miserable day outside.

“When we have visitors, all of our family and friends say they can’t believe how light the home is. Even at the back of the house, where there is no direct sunlight, the rooms are still really bright all the time – it’s incredible really.”

Whilst every St. Modwen home is designed to maximise height and light, they all have something to offer which makes them unique and perfect for the individual needs of the homeowner.

Commenting on her choice of The Mayne housetype, Kelly continued: “From the moment we viewed it, we knew this layout was perfect for us. Every bedroom is a really good size, which is rare – often you view properties and some of the bedrooms can’t fit much more than a single bed, but here all of the rooms have plenty of space. The Mayne also has a big kitchen, with room for a large dining table, as well as a two-piece suite. You get a really good ceiling height throughout the property and a lovely large garden, which are all assets you wouldn’t necessarily expect to get with a new build.”

Chloe Parker – @mrs.parkerhome

Chloe Parker is a resident at St. Modwen Homes’ Banbury Place development in Wolverhampton. Take a look at her Instagram page – @mrs.parkerhome – for even more home inspiration.

Chloe shared her thoughts on health in the home, stating: “I totally agree – having a bright, light and airy home has definitely improved my overall wellbeing. The amount of natural sunlight that streams in through my windows is unbelievable, it’s inevitable that this will put you in a good mood.

“I can honestly say that additional natural light makes me feel so much better than I did in my previous home. The ceilings are really high too, so I walk around and feel like I have much more space than I ever have before.”

We then asked Chloe about her choice of home. She said: “We chose the three-storey Hiero housetype as it was our dream home from the beginning. I actually had a conversation with my husband recently where we both remarked how spacious this property feels. As a family, this helps us to have a much better routine and quality of life because we now have the perfect spot for a dining table in the kitchen, meaning we can invite people over or eat breakfast together as a family – we could never sit and have meals together before!

She concluded: “One of my favourite features has to be the third floor, which is dedicated solely to the main bedroom. It has its own en-suite and built-in wardrobe, giving us so much privacy, whilst the Juliet balcony is a real show-stopper. The fact that this has a full door, rather than just a window outside, makes the room super airy and spacious.”
